For over 40 years, the Special Signal Fire Association has been driving canteen trucks to fires and other disasters to provide food and drinks to firefighters and victims free of charge. When the Association recently lost their biggest sponsor, including use of the canteen truck, Able Restoration stepped up to help the organization continue the great work they do for the community.
"Once we heard what was happening with the Special Signal Fire Association, we contacted them immediately to see how we could help," said Jeff Sabel, Vice President of Able Restoration. "We often see them on the scene of disasters so we fully appreciate what they do for the emergency workers and victims. Their generosity goes well beyond the call of duty and we just wanted to help support them however we could."
Able Restoration has donated a truck, warehouse space and supplies to the group and is in the process of purchasing a brand new canteen truck for the group. This has allowed Special Signal to operate with minimal interruption and still provide the same services that they have been doing for over 40 years. The trucks are managed 24/7, 365 days a year by an all-volunteer crew, respond immediately and make over 500 site runs a year in Rhode Island, Massachusetts and Connecticut. Whether the disaster is big or small, the Special Signal Fire Association is there.

New England Boatworks (NEB), one of the premiere manufacturers of custom boats has produced racing yachts for the America's Cup and the Whitbread Round the World Race, had a four-alarm fire on April 23, destroying 4 buildings at their Portsmouth, Rhode Island facility.
NEB provides a significant amount of business to subcontractors and materials suppliers in the boating industry. Any downtime they experienced as a result of the fire could have a significant impact on businesses that rely on NEB for products. Enter Able Restoration. Able immediately dispatched to the scene and was able to assess the heat damage and soot and smoke contamination of a wide variety of machinery and electronic equipment including computer systems. The quick reaction was instrumental to the full recovery of the majority of the computers including the very important data in the computer hard drives. In addition, NEB was able to get their facility back up and running at full capacity within a very short period of time.

Now that the warm weather is here, it's time to get the grill out again. Here are some helpful tips to help keep your family and friends safe this BBQ season:
- Position the grill well away from siding, deck railings and out from under eaves and overhanging branches.
- If using a gas grill, make sure there are no gas leaks by rubbing soapy water onto the gas hose and turning the gas on. If there is a leak, you will see bubbles appear.
- Always use or store cylinders outdoors in an upright (vertical) position.
- When the propane cylinder is refilled, have the supplier check for dents, damage, rust, or leaks.
- Do not use, store, or transport a cylinder where it would be exposed to high temperatures. (This includes storing spare cylinders under or near the grill.)
- When lighting your grill, make sure the grill top is open.
- Designate the grilling area a "No Play Zone" keeping kids and pets well away until grill equipment is completely cool.
- Charcoal should be left in the grill until cold to the touch or thoroughly soaked in water before disposal.
- Only use starter fluid made for barbecue grills when starting a fire in a charcoal grill.
- Do not wear loose clothing while cooking.
- Never bring a barbecue grill indoors, or into any unventilated space, including the garage. This is both a fire and carbon monoxide poisoning hazard.
